Energy Savings Program

The Energy Savings Program helps the College conserve energy and reduce operating costs by closing campus on select Fridays during the summer and during the final week of December, while also providing employees with valuable opportunities to rest, recharge, and enjoy time away from work during these periods.

Employees who work on a designated Energy Holiday earn 1.5 days of compensatory Energy Leave, which is intended to be used on designated summer Fridays and during the winter holiday closure period. If an employee earns Energy Leave by working on an Energy Holiday but is subsequently required to work on one of the designated summer Fridays or during the winter closure, the employee must be provided with an alternate day off to use their earned Energy Leave. Overtime pay should only be issued if the employee actually works more than 40 hours in a week (or 35 hours, if applicable under their union contract). Alternate days off should be used before the end of the month or calendar year, based on management’s discretion and the operational needs of the department.

For any Energy Holiday worked, no action is required in Oracle Cloud. However, if an employee does not work on a designated Energy Day, they must submit an Absence Request in Oracle Cloud using the absence type “Energy Day Not Worked.” This request should be submitted in advance of the day, approved by the employee’s supervisor, and will automatically adjust the employee’s hours within Oracle Cloud – Absences.

Summer Fridays: Offices Closed on Fridays

Employees enjoy a four-day workweek (regular hours) with Friday as a day off from the first Friday in May through the last week of June.  To participate in the four-day workweek program, employees must enter “Energy Leave Day” in Oracle for the following Fridays (listed below). 

Winter Break

Five accrued Energy Days will be applied to the Winter Break period listed below, during which College offices will be closed.

Summer Fridays: Extended Four-Day Workweek

During the latter part of the academic summer, employees will participate in the Extended Summer Friday Program, which allows them to work their normal schedule Monday through Thursday and have Fridays off without charging time.

For the remainder of July, employees will continue to observe Extended Summer Fridays in accordance with the schedule outlined below.

No additional hours are required during these final three weeks of July to receive each Friday off.  Normal College operations will resume in August.
